Asked Questions
Q. Do you have
any recommendation for Database engine needed for VisionFile™?
A. VisionFile™ can be operates
on any database engine, and we have projects by using MS SQL
Server 2000 and Oracle.
Q. Do you have any recommendation for disk space needed for
VisionFile™?
A. It greatly depends to the
amount of documents you plan to have. Generally speaking you
will need about 50KB per scanned page for a document full of
text scanned B&W at 200dpi and G4 compressed.
Q. Do you have any recommendation for the total RAM needed for
VisionFile™?
A. For the client station we usually recommend to
have 256 MB or more. Anyway the software works quite adequate
even at 128 MB on Windows 2000, but we don’t recommend this. For
the server we recommend at least 256KB of RAM, but it can rise
to 512KB depending mostly on the concurrent users and
documents workload.
Q. Do you recommend any
specific type of scanners? Do you recommend any specific
hardware (TWAIN or ISIS) scanner interfaces?
A. We use ISIS or TWAIN complaint scanners. We have very good results with
Avision scanners as well with Ricoh.
Q. On VisionFile™, are documents encrypted?
A. Out of the box, No. But it is an add-on options
we have some customers ask for data encryption and we did it
for them.
Q. Do you do "Audit-Trails" i.e. to record the name of the user, date, time document name.
A. Yes, we have it under the Log File
Q. Is the internet or intranet access password-protected?
A. Yes! The user must login with his user name and
password and the access through the web will reflect all it security
privileges and access rights.
Q. Can we mark (i.e. highlight or annotate) scanned documents in
VisionFile™?
A. Yes. You can annotate scanned documents in
VisionFile™.
Q. Is it possible to import and store all kind of files such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations but also images such as TIFF4, TIFF3, JPEG, GIF and BMP with both
VisionFile™?
A. Yes! Over 40 file image formats. It is possible with VisionFile™.
Q. Is the OCR feature in
VisionFile™?
A. Yes! We use add-on OCR software (OmniPage™) which is available for
Client-side OCR (e.g. for full text search indexing).
